Plant Matter Food: London’s Healthiest Restaurant is Now the Safest Restaurant

With the coronavirus (COVID-19) impacting many of our day-to-day lives, and social distancing being of the utmost importance, we have had to make major changes to our hours of operation and overall restaurant management. At Plant Matter, we prioritize health and safety as a restaurant in London, Ontario. That being said, we have had to temporarily close our sister restaurant, Plant Matter Bistro; however, Plant Matter Kitchen and Plant Matter Cafe still remain open. Be sure to take a look at PMK and PMC’s delicious organic and vegan distance dining menu options!

Plant Matter Food takes the safety of our staff & customers extremely seriously. We’ve happily and proudly gone above and beyond to help keep our staff and customers safe as well as doing our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

By taking the necessary precautions, we at Plant Matter have remained healthy and safe throughout this time. In no particular order, here are the ways we are keeping the safety of the community in mind.

Safety Precautions:

1. Constant sanitization of surfaces, spraying with sanitizer, and wiping clean with a paper towel. Hand-washing is mandatory for all staff on a continual basis, as well as wearing gloves where necessary

2. We have significantly increased our stock of all cleaning supplies including but not limited to hand sanitizer, gloves, paper towel, hand soap, etc.

3. With our modified hours of operation, this has provided us the opportunity and time to do a complete top-to-bottom sanitization of the whole restaurant. What does that mean? Fridges, all shelving, ceiling & floors, ventilation system, all glass & dishware, and everything people come in contact with have been disinfected.

4. We have also made it a point to reduce the points of contact through the following:

i.           We have minimal staff on-site (4-person max.) and practise social distancing while at work.

ii.         We have created our own ‘sections’ within the restaurant that we are not allowed to cross over into another staff member’s area without notice.

iii.        We have one person delegated to answering the phone and using the iPads.

iv.        We have another person to pack up the orders (with gloves).

v.          We utilize the use of 2 front doors: One being for SkipTheDishes’ food pick-ups, (bags are not allowed in the restaurant). The second door being for guest pick up.

vi.        We limit only one customer in the door at a time.

vii.      We are cashless and only accepting debit/credit, and encourage people to pre-pay over the phone.

viii.     Debit machines are sanitized and wiped down after each individual use.

“This is a hard time for all of us. We have created our own family at PMK, and we CHOOSE to work together. We see each other more than some of us are able to see our immediate families, but we made a pact to take care of each other and keep each other safe in this unfortunate circumstance. It has brought us all closer, and we will continue to power through as a team as long as we can. We got you!” ~ Lauren Ryder, General Manager
